Background C-type lectin domain family 4 member A (CLEC4A), also referred to as dendritic cell (DC) immunoreceptor (DCIR), is a type II membrane glycoprotein, primarily expressed on myeloid-derived cells including monocytes, DCs, macrophages, and neutrophils (1-4). CLEC4A contains an ITIM motif in the cytoplasmic domain, which is involved in regulating immune response (1,2,5). CLEC4A provides anti-inflammatory signaling through the recruitment of phosphatases SHP-1 and SHP-2 (3-5). Insufficient CLEC4A function might cause autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (4,5).
