Background Ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related (ATR) is an essential kinase with functions in DNA damage and the replication stress response, as well as in maintaining chromosome stability during mitosis (1,2). ETAA1 binds to RPA-coated single-stranded DNA at stalled replication forks, activating ATR signaling independently of TopBP1 in response to replication stress, protecting replication fork integrity (4-6).
