Background Lysosomal-associated transmembrane protein 5 (LAPTM5) is a multi-pass transmembrane protein expressed in late endosomal/lysosomal compartments of hematopoietic cells (1). LAPTM5 contains three PY motifs (L/PPxY) and a ubiquitin-interacting motif (UIM). Transport of LAPTM5 to appropriate subcellular compartments requires LAPTM5 binding to the ubiquitin-ligase Nedd4 (2). Although the function of LAPTM5 remains unknown, it may function in immune cells to transport other molecules to be released from the lysosome once at the plasma membrane.
