Product Description
Growth Factors and Cytokines for studying NGF beta in the research area.
Storage
Human β-NGF Recombinant Protein is supplied as lyophilized material that is very stable at -20°C. It is recommended to reconstitute with sterile water at a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL which can be further diluted in aqueous solutions as needed. Addition of a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) is recommended for long-term storage. Once in solution, store at 4°C and use within 1 month, or store at -20ºC to -80ºC and use within 3 months to prevent loss of potency. Aliquot to avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles if storing reconstituted material at -20ºC to -80ºC.
Source / Purification
Recombinant human β-NGF was expressed in and is supplied in a lyophilized form.
Background
β-NGF is the prototypical member of the neurotrophin family of growth factors (1). β-NGF is involved in neuronal survival, differentiation, and growth (1,2). Outside of the nervous system, NGF is produced by a variety of immune cells, including B cells, T cells, monocytes, and mast cells (3,4). β-NGF binds to and signals through two distinct receptors, TrkA and p75NTR (1,2). Cellular responses induced by NGF are modulated by receptor expression. For example, TrkA leads to the inhibition of apoptosis and neuronal differentiation. In contrast, signaling through p75NTR in the absence of TrkA induces cell death. (1,2). NGF signaling via TrkA is characterized by activation of the PI3K/Akt and PLCγ pathways (1,2). NGF signaling via p75 induces JNK and NFκB activation (1,2). Aberrant NGF signaling may be linked to the onset of Alzheimer's disease (5,6).
