Background Ribosomal protein L19 (RPL19) is part of the ribosomal large 60S subunit. It is conserved in eukaryotes and archaea but is not present in bacteria (1-3). Like many other ribosomal proteins, it is critically important in cellular function, and many RPL19 pseudogenes are present throughout the genome (4). RPL19 is co-amplified along with HER2 in breast cancer (5). When highly expressed, RPL19 has been shown to be a poor prognostic marker in prostate and colorectal cancers and has been identified as a novel tumor antigen in lung adenocarcinoma (6-8).
