Background DEAH-box helicase 15 (DHX15), also known as DEAD-box polypeptide 15 (DDX15), is an RNA helicase involved in mRNA processing and antiviral innate immunity (1-4). It is a ubiquitously expressed protein containing a conserved DEAD (Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp) motif, which is important for ATP hydrolysis and unwinding RNA structures (1-4). DDX15 acts as an important RNA sensor in myeloid dendritic cells and induces the production of type I IFN and proinflammatory cytokines (4,5). In intestinal epithelial cells, DDX15 interacts with NLRP6 to restrict viral infection by triggering NLRP6 inflammasome activation and IL-18 secretion (5).
