The Programmed-Temperature On-Column (POC) Inlet is designed for use with fused-silica capillary columns. The sample is injected onto the column while the inlet is cool. After the injection, the inlet begins to heat. This delay in heating avoids the flash vaporization associated with a normal injection. This explosive vaporization can cause thermal breakdown and/or discrimination of certain analytes, which can be avoided by using the POC. The POC Injector is best used to achieve recovery of compounds of greater than C₆₀ such as polywaxes. The POC utilizes flow control, producing the best recovery out to C₁₀₀ or greater.
