Its proteolytic inhibitory activity is shown to protect neurons against damage caused by plasmin activation. Mice overexpressing neuroserpin exhibited loss of tPA activity in the brain. Overexpression of neuroserpin in primary neurons leads to increased dendritic arborization and altered dendritic spine shape.
