DYRK2 is involved in cell survival, development, differentiation, gene transcription, proteasomal regulation, and microtubule formation. DYRK2 is a key regulator of cell cycle and apoptosis in response to DNA damage via phosphorylation of p53. DYRK2 has two isoforms and is mostly localized in the cytoplasm; however, it accumulates in the nucleus under genotoxic stress conditions (PMID: 31505048, 37886981).
