The protein is enriched in the brain, intestine, kidney and liver. Cytoplasmic expression in the small intestine, hepatocytes, pancreatic islet cells and kidney tubules. This gene encodes an enzyme responsible for the hydrolytic deamination of guanine. Studies in rat ortholog suggest this gene plays a role in microtubule assembly. The molecular weight of GDA is 51 kDa, and it can recognize other isoforms.
