CIB2 is broadly expressed in a variety of tissues, which plays a role in sensory neurons of the ear and eye involved in the regulation of Ca2+ homeostasis (PMID: 28663585; 29084757; 29255404). Mutations of CIB2 have been associated with autosomal recessive nonsyndromic deafness 48 (DFNB48), as well as syndromic deafness in Usher syndrome, type 1J (USH1J) (PMID: 23331261).
