Most members of this family appear in the form of "KRAB-ZNF", that is, the N-terminal has a KRAB(Krüppel-associated box) transcription inhibitory domain, and the C-terminal is a DNA binding domain composed of multiple C2H2 zinc fingers connected in series. ZNF589 also follows this classic structure: KRAB-A/B box at N end, middle linker, and 11 continuous C2H2 zinc fingers at C end. Because KRAB domain can recruit KAP1/TRIM28 and other co-inhibitory complexes, ZNF589 is generally regarded as a potential transcription inhibitor.
