It is a transcription factor that associates with euchromatin and promoter regions of many genes in a cell type-specific manner. ZNF768 is required for cell growth and survival, and its depletion induces a strong proliferative and pro-apoptotic response in several cell lines in vitro. ZNF768 is also involved in regulating cell cycle effectors and p53 targets, with its overexpression sufficient to bypass RAS-induced senescence in a p53-dependent manner (PMID: 34404770; 35419475).
