Vpx (virus-like particles containing viral protein X) could overcome this block by interacting with SAMHD1, inducing proteasome-dependent degradation of SAMHD1. Mutations in SAMHD1 cause Aicardi-Goutières syndrome, a genetic encephalopathy with presumed immune pathogenesis.
