The data cable connects the BioPAT® Viamass system to DCU, ODU to M12 or Biobrain® and has a length of 3m. This product can be used in single-use (SU) systems, e.g., Biostat® STR and Biostat® RM. As well as in multi-use (MU) systems, e.g., benchtop bioreactors like Biostat® B and Biostat® B-DCU.

One of the most requested parameters in industrial cell cultivation is the monitoring of biomass. The knowledge of the biomass progress during a fermentation process gives deeper process knowledge and understanding. Therefor it enables the control of the biomass and helps to define feeding, harvest or infection points. Offline methods like visual cell counting or semi-automated systems still dominated the biomass measurement in industrial cell cultivation. But these offline methods based on taking a representative sample can not monitor the process continously. T he BioPAT®Viamass biomass measurement system enables the field-proven sensor technology used for decades in stainless steel fermenters to be utilized in single-use bioreactors. Based on impedance spectroscopy, this sensor technology measures the specific capacitance of the culture medium and the cells, providing an excellent correlation to viable biomass. Integrated into the bioreactor’s DCU and Biobrain®control system, BioPAT® Viamass permits automatic monitoring and control of viable biomass.
