Product Description
XBridge BEH Shield RP18 columns complement the XBridge BEH C18 and C8 phases and provide a necessary and powerful tool for HPLC method development. The embedded carbamate group in the bonded phase ligand provides alternate selectivity, especially for phenolic compounds compared to straight chain alkyl columns. Packed in ultra-low dispersion hardware, 2.5 µm eXtended Performance [XP] columns enable exceptional separation performance, robustness and throughput for HPLC assays while enabling a seamless transition path toward UPLC adoption.

Additional Information
XBridge BEH Shield RP18 XP Column, 130Å, 2.5 µm, 2.1 mm X 100 mm, 1/pk As more method development scientists choose columns containing embedded polar groups for their alternative selectivity, the XBridge Shield RP18 column offers complimentary selectivity when compared to traditional C18 phases while providing a superior peak shape for bases. The embedded carbamate group in the bonded phase ligand provides this alternate selectivity, particularly for phenolic compounds compared to straight-chain alkyl columns. This functionality enables compatibility with fully aqueous mobile phases without risk of poor dewetting, resulting in reliable and robust retention. These columns use a patented Shield Technology, which incorporates a carbamate group embedded into the bonded phase that “shields” surface silanols. This technology offers unique selectivity for embedded polar group bonded phases, with polar and basic analyte retention factors generally being reduced and non-polar analytes being relatively unaffected. Shield bonded phases offer stable and reproducible analyte retention times in 100% aqueous mobile phases. Conventional alkyl phases suffer from dewetting under these conditions, and retention times are greatly diminished. XBridge BEH Shield RP18 Columns also use Waters’ eXtended Performance (XP) columns, designed to enhance the transition strategy between HPLC and UPLC technology. XP 2.5 µm columns provide additional flexibility and improved productivity at intermediate backpressures. While most conventional HPLC lab equipment cannot take advantage of the benefits of sub-2 µm particles, XP 2.5 µm columns produce intermediate backpressures and match LC system performance ranges, allowing for seamless integration without the limits of system dispersion and pressure ranges. Columns are sold individually and feature an inner diameter of 2.1 mm and a length of 100 mm. Waters recommends the use of XBridge BEH Shield XP VanGuard Cartridge, 130Å, 2.5 µm, 2.1 mm X 5 mm, 3/pk to extend column lifetimes.
FAQ
What Solvents Should Be Used with XBridge BEH Shield RP18 Columns? The use of high-quality chromatography-grade solvents will help maintain maximum column performance, along with the filtering of all aqueous buffers prior to use. Waters recommends the use of Pall Gelman Laboratory Acrodisc filters.
Solvents containing suspended particulate materials will clog the outside surface of the inlet distribution frit of the column, leading to higher operating pressure and poor performance, and are therefore not recommended.
