Additional Information
Gen-Pak Anion-Exchange Column, 2.5 µm, 4.6 mm X 100 mm, 1/pk Offering the highest resolution available in anion-exchange HPLC of nucleic acids, the Gen-Pak FAX Anion-Exchange Column is the first choice of chromatographers. The Gen-Pak FAX column contains a weak anion exchanger, which is based on DEAE functionalized non-porous resin. With a particle size of 2.5 µm, this column is also suitable lab equipment for analytical and micro-preparative applications. The column has an inner diameter of 4.6 mm and a length of 100 mm and is made of steel. Packing for each column is polymer-based high-performance anion-exchange packing, designed to perform high-resolution analysis and purification on various nucleic acid species (up to at least 5,000 base pairs). This includes DNA restriction fragments, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products, plasmids, and synthetic oligonucleotides. Each order contains a single column. Operating conditions include a pH range of 2 pH to 8 pH and a maximum pressure of 6000 psi or 415 bar. All Waters columns are manufactured under rigorous standards in order to meet industry guidelines. Testing can be performed on columns using MassPREP Oligonucleotide Standard or other appropriate samples. In order to provide a proper basis for detecting system component changes and troubleshooting, each column should be tested with a standard sample independently.

FAQ
What Should I Do If My Gen-Pak FAX Column Is Not Working? The lifetime of a column is directly related to the care and use of that column. This can be influenced by volume of use, cleanliness, and proper handling or storage.
If you observe a change in any of the following areas, you will want to troubleshoot your column: retention of a particular compound, resolution between two compounds, peak shape. If any of these are not performing correctly, the validity of all results should be questioned until the cause is determined and resolved.
If pressure buildup or a loss of resolution occurs, it may be due to the buildup of particulates from samples or eluents on the inlet filter. Filtering samples and eluents will greatly extend the lifetime of both columns and inlet filters. If this is the case, you can perform a 20-40% acetic acid wash for up to 10-15 minutes. The inlet filter can also be replaced as needed.
