What Chromatography Guidelines Are Used for Styragel Columns? Column lifetime in gel permeation chromatography columns is finite and directly related to their care and use and is particularly impacted by contamination due to samples and eluents, frequent changeover, improper handling and storage, and temperature cycling.
For the best resolution and maximum column lifetime, do not exceed a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min or a back pressure of 3.5 MPa (500 psi, 35 atm) per column. Columns should also be protected from vibration and mechanical shock, with temperature cycling minimized.
Always use high-quality HPLC grade solvents and dedicate each column to a specific application to eliminate deterioration due to frequent solvent changes.
